Hash Generator

Generate SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-1, and MD5 hashes from text or files directly in your browser.

Input text

SHA-256 digest (hex)

Enter text to generate a hash.

Compare with expected hash

Paste an expected hash to check whether it matches the generated digest.
Using This Tool: Guide & Notes Show guide

The hash generator creates fixed-length digests from text or files in your browser. A hash is a fingerprint, not encryption.

How to use it

  • Choose Text or File as the input source.
  • Select SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512, SHA-1, or MD5.
  • Choose hex or Base64 output, then copy the generated digest.
  • Paste an expected digest into the comparison box to check whether it matches.

Options and settings

  • SHA-256 is the safest default for everyday checksum and learning use.
  • SHA-1 and MD5 are included for legacy comparison, not modern collision-resistant security.
  • Uppercase hex changes display only; the underlying digest bytes are the same.
  • File hashing happens locally in the browser. The file is not uploaded by this tool.

Notes

  • Hashes are one-way fingerprints, not reversible encryption.
  • Do not use plain hashes alone for password storage; real password storage needs a dedicated password hashing function and salts.
