Using This Tool: Guide & Notes Show guide
The Unicode and UTF-8 inspector reveals how visible text is represented as grapheme clusters, Unicode code points, UTF-16 code units, and UTF-8 bytes.
How to use it
- Use Inspect Text to paste ordinary text, symbols, accented characters, emoji, or whitespace and examine each code point.
- Choose a normalization form when you need to compare composed and decomposed representations.
- Select a row in the code-point table to inspect its UTF-8 bytes, UTF-16 units, Unicode escape, category, and script.
- Use Decode Bytes to turn hexadecimal, decimal, binary, or Base64 byte input back into UTF-8 text.
Options and settings
- Byte display and separator settings change the presentation of encoded bytes, not the underlying data.
- Visualize whitespace replaces spaces, tabs, line breaks, and selected formatting characters with readable labels.
- Keep printable ASCII leaves ordinary ASCII characters readable in the Unicode escape output.
- Reject invalid UTF-8 makes byte decoding fail instead of inserting the Unicode replacement character.
Notes
- A grapheme cluster can contain several Unicode code points, and one code point can require several UTF-8 bytes.
- Normalization can change the code-point sequence while preserving a visually equivalent result.
- All inspection and decoding runs locally in the browser; the tool does not upload the entered text.
